Kids Web, part of the Living Schoolbook Project at Syracuse University, is a directory site organized by subject area and focusing on sites designed for student use. 

The Smithsonian Institution Home Page

This is a site that includes tours of the 16 Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo, research resources, on-line publications, children's resources.  It also provides a map ofMagazine's the mall.
