The Board's main agenda item on February 24 was Deputy
Superintendent Jackie Taylor's report on assessments
of student work, including the Tri-State Consortium
evaluation of the district's mathematics program,
and a look at New York State test data, Terranova

Tri-State Consortium evaluation by Math Department
Chair Tim Kaltenecker, H.C. Crittenden Middle School
Assistant Principal Barbara Topiol, and many members
of the Math Department.
Tri-State's Math Evaluation
Teachers K-12 have spent more than a year preparing
for the visit of an evaluation team from the Tri-State
Consortium, a collaborative of some 35 high performing
school districts in the suburbs of New York City.
The results of their preparation, and the visit itself,
were excellent, noting many strengths in our math
program. Mr. Chambers commented that the evaluation
included some ratings that were higher than any previously
offered by a Tri-State evaluation in any member district.
Board members and teachers dialogued extensively
about the report. Mr. Kaltenecker and Dr. Taylor,
in this dialogue, called attention to some of their
expectations for the future of the math program. Likely
revisions yet to come will include more efforts to
coordinate the program across the four schools, and
