would be diminished, the Board as a whole had worked hard at
the 4/13 meeting to reach consensus on the budget proposal for
2004-05. The budget adoption step on 4/20, therefore, became
a formality entrusted to the four members present, by the Board
as a whole. They adopted the budget unanimously.
NYS Budget News
Mr. Chambers and Mr. Carlson reviewed the New York State budget
context, noting the fact that the State budget was late again
(for the 20th consecutive year), but that Albany decision-making
was even more complicated than usual due to the court-ordered
change in funding for public education in New York. At this
point, no substantive resolution to the education funding
question has emerged from the legislature or the Governor,
and the over all State budget does not seem likely to find
an early resolution.
