RECEPTION FOR NEW STAFF
Teachers new to the school district this year were
personally welcomed by members of the Board of Education
at a brief reception preceding the public meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, these new staff members
were introduced and cordially thanked for their efforts
to make good beginnings in service to Byram Hills
students.
WORK SESSION: POSSIBLE CLASSROOM AND CORE
FACILITIES PROJECT
The Board focused its attention again on the study
of enrollment-driven needs for classroom and core
facilities space. This meeting was the fourth in a
series of seven or eight; featured were updated drafts
from the district's architects of possible expansion
plans for each of the four schools. Also in attendance
were construction management consultants who are at
work on preliminary cost estimates for the possible
project, which are now expected to be available for
a first Board review

by December 18.
Discussion of the architects' sketches and their
conceptual approach to addressing the expansion needs
of each school to accommodate enrollment were reviewed
by the Board of Education, members of an advisory
committee, and other interested residents. The current
drafts are the product of four months of collaboration
between the architects, construction managers, and
the district's administration, and they illustrate
the options for each school currently judged to be
the best choices for the Board's consideration. Discussion
proceeded by school, with Coman Hill and Wampus receiving
attention. Draft plans for H.C. Crittenden Middle
School and Byram Hills High School will be in the
spotlight at another work session on
December 2. The next Board meeting on December 9,
will focus on the related issues of enrollment projections
from the district's demographer, and classroom size
guidelines.
