SESSION:
Possible Classroom and Core Facilities Project
The Board, joined by members of the advisory committee
and others from the public, continued its long series
of work sessions on the enrollment-driven need for
new space, focusing this time on plans for the middle
school and high school.

enrollment growth expected to reach above 750 students.
Discussion from the Board and committee members focused
not only on the addition of general use classrooms,
but also on questions of technology uses and space,
science, physical education, foreign language, art,
and music space.
BHHS: High School Principal Dr. Donohue,
with the assistance of the architects, reviewed drawings
reflecting the high school's projected enrollment
increase which is expected to continue steadily through
the next ten years, reaching nearly 1,000 students
by the year 2013. Again, additional general use classrooms
are a feature of the plans; also shown are four new
science classrooms (even now existing science classrooms
are utilized nearly 100% of the time), and additional
rooms for special education, art, and music. The plans
show increases in space for guidance and teacher offices,
as well, anticipating the need for more staff to serve
more students.
Next Steps Ahead: The scope of the draft plans
presented by the architects for all four schools is
significant, so in anticipation of the cost estimates
to be presented soon by the construction management
consultants, the Board asked that estimates be shown
both for the plans as currently drawn, and for a possible
reduced scope of work. Those estimates are
