Policy Review-Chemical Code of Conduct
Acknowledging extensive comment from community members at the June 15 meeting, the Board accepted Superintendent John Chambers' recommendation to redraft the proposed policy. The Superintendent accepted responsibility for guiding that redraft effort through the Board Policy Committee, and outreach to representative community members, promising a first reading of the new draft for the Board's public agenda of July 27. Assuming the success of this step, the policy could be presented for adoption at the Board's meeting of August 31, and in place for the opening of school. Interested community members, including students and parents, are encouraged to send their comments to Mr. Chambers or any Board member.

Staff Reports
The Superintendent celebrated the delightful end-of-year events of the 5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, the 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, and the High School Graduation, offering thanks and congratulations to all. Mr. Carlson updated the Board on the favorable progress on installation of new portable classrooms, and the unfavorable lack of progress by the legislature and the governor toward a State budget. The court-mandated reform of school financing is perhaps most significant in the list of items unresolved

in Albany.

Board Reports
Committee assignments were discussed at some length, and Board members were urged to express their preferences so the assignments could be made as soon as possible. Letters from several fourth graders were shared with the Board, as a part of a student project on local government.

The Board adjourned the public meeting to an executive session on several personnel items.
