July 27
Following a work session on transportation matters,
the Board convened an unusual mid-summer meeting.
The 7/27 meeting allowed for numerous appointments
of new teachers and other staff, which are shown in
a text box on pages 3 and 4.
Classroom Facilities Project Update
The Board's consultants from Perkins Eastman Architects
and Triton Construction were present to share the
latest schematic designs for the CH and WA elementary
schools' planned additions, and to review cost estimates
on the planned addition of classrooms to BHHS. This
was one more step in the ongoing process of bringing
the $47MM classroom facilities bond approved by the
voters in March 2004 on the way to actual construction.

schematic designs,
cost estimates, and other planning steps must be complete
before the first shovel hits the ground, which is projected
for the late spring of 2005. Project completion for
all four schools is targeted for the 2006-07 school
year.
Policy Review
The Board again took up discussion of the proposed
"Chemical Health Code of Conduct" which
had been the subject of considerable public discussion
at the close of the school year. The rewritten policy
presented on 7/27 was more favorably received, although
lively discussion still centered on the question of
how far beyond the school day the Code of Conduct
should extend. At length, the Board accepted the policy
draft as a first reading, promising to return to it
on 8/31in hopes of adoption.
Other Business
Also touched upon in this meeting were plans for the
replacement of computers at BHHS, the latest count
expected for Kindergarten in September (227), and
progress toward the start up of the new Byram Hills/North
Castle Cablevision channel, expected sometime in the
fall of 2004.
August 31
Once again the Board had numerous staffing changes
to approve, as shown in the aforementioned text box.
