to mid-September. The latter field will be used for some football this fall, and after the fall sports seasons are concluded, a last step of renovation work will convert it to baseball and softball diamonds for use in the spring of 2005.

The new multi-purpose field is forecast for completion by mid-October, in time for Homecoming. The practice field on the same level will be ready soon after.

Still to be completed later in the fall will be the new track surface surrounding the multi-purpose field; it, too, will be ready for use in the spring of 2005.

The Board also discussed prospects for the balance of the athletic fields project-bleachers built into the slope of the multi-purpose site, the new concession stand/utility building, the addition to the Wellness Center, and the renovation of the locker rooms. Much of this latter work is to be re-bid in an effort to keep the whole project within budget. Mr. Carlson presented a summary of expenditures thus far, together with estimates on the work yet to be done, offering some cause for cautious optimism pending the re-bids.

Other Business
The Board forecast plans for its goal-setting retreat on September 21, and heard suggestions about goals which emerged from the administrative retreat on August 25 and 26. The calendar for development of the 2005-06 budget was reviewed and approved, as were plans for the two October Board meetings.

As usual, the Board adjourned to executive session for several personnel and legal matters.
