PROGRAM REPORT: STATE AND FEDERAL TESTING
Having established a Board Goal to "Reflect and
refine, in broad overview, the balance between administration
and preparation for required State and Federal testing,
and other local assessments of student work,"
the Board turned in this meeting to the District administrators
for an update on recent announcements about new testing
requirements. Dr. Jacquelyn L. Taylor, Deputy Superintendent,
summarized news just released by the State about new
testing mandates from the Federal "No Child Left
Behind" legislation.
Dr. Taylor noted the advent, beginning in 2005, of
new State/Federal tests in mathematics and English
Language Arts for grades 3, 5, 6, and 7. These new
tests will add to current state requirements in grades
4 and 8, and the District (like all others in the
state and nation) will have to comply or face a variety
of sanctions. Dr. Taylor
