personnel and legal matters. On one of these matters, concerning a CSEA employee, the Board
returned to public session to take action.

JULY 20
The Board held a special meeting to consider bid recommendations on various construction matters.
Recommended and approved were bids on the Classroom and Core Facilities Project (HCC Middle School), the Athletic Facilities Project (to bring the project to completion), and for the relocation of modular classrooms (from HCC to CH).

With this Board action, all of the contract awards for both the classroom project and the athletics project are complete. Thanks to the timeliness of the special Board meeting, all the work can go ahead without further delay.

JULY 29
The July 29th meeting was held primarily for the purpose of an update on the District's extensive construction projects. In addition, several consent agenda items were approved, as shown on page 5.

Construction Update
The District's consultants from Triton Construction and Perkins Eastman Architects were in attendance to brief the Board on progress on the Classroom and Core Facilities Project, and the Athletic Facilities Project. In overview, the Classroom and Core Facilities Project is ahead of schedule and under budget at this juncture. The work is phased across the District's schools, with bids received and accepted for all four schools. Byram Hills High

School is the first phase, already under construction; Coman Hill and Wampus are the second phase, with construction mobilization and demolition occurring this summer; HCC is the third phase, with work beginning by the end of the summer. Construction will be in evidence at all four schools as students return in September, and will continue throughout the 2005-06 school year.

In the Athletic Facilities Project, most of the fields work has been accomplished, as can be seen most evidently at the high school. Bids for the remaining portion of the Athletic Facilities Project (high school locker-room renovations, an addition to the Wellness Center, and a concession//utility building) were accepted by the Board on July 20, and work will be mobilized on those projects as the summer ends and the new school year begins.

Two additional modular classrooms are also being moved this summer, from HCC to CH, for use during the construction period.
One highlight in the staffing appointments approved was the confirmation of Susan Rosengrant as interim assistant principal for HCC.

Staff and Board Reports
The Superintendent reported on enrollment projections for the 2005-06 school year, indicating that numbers may come in slightly below the K-12 projection of 2,853. With eleven sections planned for Kindergarten in September 2005, class sizes in each grade level look as though

they will fall comfortably within the District's class-size guidelines. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jacquelyn Taylor updated the Board on summer staff and curriculum development activities, noting the extensive number of projects under way, and teachers participating. Dr. Taylor also requested, and the Board approved, the addition of a part-time (.4) special education position at the high school.

Board reports included discussion of the Board's committee assignments for 2005-06, and thoughts toward Board goals for the year, looking ahead to the Board's annual retreat on September 11.
