Dr. Taylor, Deputy Superintendent, reported on extensive staff development and curriculum work over the summer, on the orientation of new teachers August 23—25, and the opening meetings for the entire teaching staff August 30—September 1.
Assistant Superintendent Greg Carlson congratulated the custodial and maintenance staff on their outstanding efforts over the summer, resulting in their success in making the buildings ready for staff and students, even while construction proceeded. Mr. Carlson also discussed with the Board the bond borrowing steps which are necessary to finance the construction project.
Board Reports
Board discussion also included preparations for their annual planning retreat, to be held on September 11. Goals for the year and protocols for Board operation will be key topics for the retreat.
Other Business
Numerous personnel items were also acted upon in preparation for the opening of school, along with several bid recommendations. A summary can be found in the adjoining box.
Superintendent’s Contract Among the personnel items was a renewal of the Board’s contract with Superintendent of Schools John Chambers, for a three-year term from 2005-2008.
