PROGRAM REPORT: OPENING OF SCHOOL
Superintendent John Chambers characterized the opening of school as “ very successful and smooth,” noting perfect attendance for the district’s teachers, and positive attitudes from students. The major construction activity taking place at all four schools over the summer challenged maintenance and custodial crews in their efforts to make the buildings ready, but they worked diligently—right through the Labor Day weekend—to be sure that all the classrooms and the buildings were ready. Office staff also did their part, preparing schedules, mailings, etc., to get school open in the best way possible.

Staffing Update
A staffing update was presented by Dr. Taylor, with emphasis on the fact that school opened with K-12 staffing virtually complete. This was cause for celebration, as we recognized that other neighboring districts had not been so fortunate.
Transportation Reports
Transportation reports from opening day were reasonably good, with most buses accomplishing their routes on schedule. Mr. Carlson did note problems on some routes, which are typical of the opening days of school: he promised that he and transportation supervisor Guy Elmore would be reviewing
