final Goals draft. The Board noted the expectation that
several items not on the Goals list-such as Curriculum Conversations,
Finance and Facilities Management, and Policy Review-would
be expressed as on-going priorities.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
CTV 20 (the District's new Cable TV station, shared with the
Town) was the subject of an update because of concerns about
a budget proposal higher than that originally forecast. Joy
Varley, the District's Director of Fine Arts, and the District's
impresario for Cable TV, was present to help with the
update. She presented the Board with extensive materials on
programming plans, budget, and the responsibilities of the
part-time consultants prosposed for employment. Noting that
2005-06 would be the first full year of CTV 20 operation,
she showed the Board a sample of
CTV 20 programming-a three-minute synopsis of recent efforts
to use Smartboard technology in classrooms K-12, which has
been funded in large part by grants from the Byram Hills Education
Foundation. (Parents are seeing this same three-minute piece
at Back-to-School Nights.)
After questions and dialogue, the Board voted to approve
the revised budget, on the understanding that the difference
would be made up from savings in other budget lines. Also
approved were contracts for the part-time CTV 20 consultants,
in an atmosphere of great appreciation for the communications
impact of CTV 20.
Other Contracts:
Contracts were also approved between

the District and outside
agencies for the provision of Driver Education in after school
hours, occupational therapy for special education students,
and the service of an athletic trainer.
STAFF REPORTS
Greg Carlson, Assistant Superintendent for Business &
Management Services, updated the Board on transportation adjustments
typical to the start of a new school year, including alterations
in several bus routes. Mr. Carlson also noted completion of
the independent auditors' field work in review of the District's
2004-05 budget year, and promised that the auditors would
soon deliver their formal report.
BOARD REPORTS
Board committees updated their colleagues, and the Board looked
forward to several upcoming meetings. The Board president
Gail Reese noted several communications in response to the
Board's recent letter concerning State and
|
Federal testing impact, one of them an acknowledgment from
the Commissioner of Education.
A brief executive session was held at the conclusion of the
public meeting on matters of personnel or legal content.
BOCES BOARD ELECTION
A quorum of the Board gathered briefly on the morning of September
22, the required date for voting on candidates for a vacant
seat on the Southern Westchester BOCES Board.
