Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and
Technology at Three Levels
Standard 6 - Interconnectedness: Common Themes
- Intermediate
Students will understand the relationships and common themes that
connect mathematics, science, and technology and apply the themes
to these and other areas of learning.
Patterns of Change
5. Identifying patterns of change is necessary for making predictions
about future behavior and conditions.
Students:
use simple linear equations to represent
how a parameter changes with time.
observe patterns of change in trends or
cycles and make predictions on what might happen in the future.
This is evident, for example, when students:
study how distance changes with time for
a car traveling at a constant speed.
use a graph of a population over time to
predict future population levels.
