CURRICULUM
For 2007 – 2008 the Byram Hills School District commits to continuous improvement in curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices K – 12. We will focus on the following:
- Support initiatives in sustainability education
- Continue learning and implementing Cultural Proficiency
- Study the use of performance assessments in our program with consideration of a K -12 system for performance assessment.
- Conduct Social Studies grades 6 -12 Tri- State consortium evaluation in December 2007
- Continue support to K-5 teachers and students in the implementation of the new program, Growing with Math, and support grades 6-12 teachers in new math assessments and curriculum from the New York State Education Department
- Continue the development of our K -12 writing program
- Continue support for the integration of Facing History and Ourselves resources and strategies
- Implement differentiation in classrooms K-12 guided by the work of Cindy Strickland from the University of Virginia
- Support the use of SMART BOARDS in our classrooms, BOBCAT-alog for research and other innovative technology
- Implement handwriting strategies for grades K-5 as recommended by the district handwriting study group
- Continue the work of site-based teams and the curriculum committee in Character Education
- Implement the system for ongoing curriculum and program review with a focus on Fine Arts
