Kelso’s Choice

Kelso’s Choice is a children’s conflict resolution program that provides our students with the tools and the language to practice each day at
Coman Hill.  Kelso came to Coman Hill in 2005 and his presence was felt almost immediately.  First the children learned the difference between a
big problem and a small problemThey learned that big problems are “scary and dangerous” and should be solved by going to a trusted adult for help.  Through the program they learn that small problems can be solved independently by using one of Kelso’s Choices.   The children are taught each of the choices through role plays, stories, and discussion, and receive praise or perhaps a coveted Kelso sticker when they solve their interpersonal problems independently.  Because we all know that it is “Easy to learn Kelso, but it is hard to live it,” we hope that with reinforcement of the program at home we will affirm Kelso’s belief that “All children can be peacemakers.”

Kelso, the program “adviser,” is a wise frog who lives at Willow Pond where he advises others as to how to live peacefully.   Please click on Kelso to enter his world and learn about how we at Coman Hill are learning to be peacemakers.
