American Heritage Dictionaries The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is famous for its word histories and explanations of how the words are used in this country. The American Heritage dictionaries are available in two ways:
Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary This "learner's dictionary" uses simple language in its definitions. A good choice for children and English-language learners. Encarta World English Dictionary, North American Edition Words searched can be found in the thesaurus or translated into Spanish, French, German, or Italian by clicking on appropriate tabs. Infoplease Dictionary Contains detailed definitions from Random House Unabridged Dictionary. Merriam-Webster's Online Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition is the dictionary used by most book publishers as their source of authoritative spellings.
