With a perfect audition score, Byram Hills High School senior Kendall Sorenson was chosen for the highly selective New York State School Music Association All-State Treble Chorus.
Kendall, a Soprano 1, was selected from thousands of students who auditioned at solo ensemble festivals throughout the state in the spring. She performed Mozart's "Batti, batti, o bel Masetto" from "Don Giovanni” for her audition, scoring a perfect 100 and earning full credit on her sight-singing.
As a vocalist, Kendall has terrific clarity, tone, expression and warmth.
“Kendall's voice is her superpower,” choir teacher Dr. Douglas Coates said. “The time and effort she puts into perfecting it has given her the confidence to sing out, model for other students and lead from within. I've marveled at her talent since her freshman year, and it has only grown exponentially through her senior year. She’s incredible.”
Kendall will rehearse and perform with the All-State Treble Chorus at the music association’s winter conference in Rochester from Dec. 3-6.
The All-State bands, chorus, orchestra and jazz ensembles are made up of top students from the state and are led by renowned guest musicians. About 825 students from New York are selected to participate each year. Kendall was among the 85 students selected from Westchester for all of the ensembles.
“Congratulations to Kendall on this great accomplishment and thank you to Dr. Coates for his support and guidance,” Director of Fine Arts Marc Beja said.
