Byram Hills Students Win Multiple Awards at WESEF, 3 Advance to International Science Competition

Nineteen students in the Byram Hills High School Authentic Science Research Program won awards at the Regeneron Westchester Science and Engineering Fair, with three advancing to the international competition.

Seniors Chloe Bernstein, Samantha Milewicz and Emily Stangel won the grand prize, awarded to the top 20 overall scoring projects.

The grand prize winners can compete at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas, Texas, in May. The international event, billed as the world’s largest pre-college STEM competition, involves more than 1,800 students competing for nearly $6 million in awards.

Byram Hills students also brought home more than two dozen awards from the regional competition, known as WESEF, held on March 18 at Somers High School. There were more than 550 students from 40 high schools in Westchester and Putnam counties showcasing their research projects.

The Byram Hills students cheered each other at the awards ceremony on the evening of March 23.

“We are so proud of all of our students, their hard work and their contributions to the world through their research,” said Stephanie Greenwald, director of the Authentic Science Research Program.
