BUDGET VOTE PROCESS AND PROCEDURES
The District has three (3) election inspectors and an election chairperson for the annual District Budget and Board of Education Vote. The election inspectors are approved and trained by the Westchester County Board of Elections. The voting machines are provided to the district from the Westchester County Board of Elections. The election inspectors open the sealed voting machines in the morning and close the machines after the polls close to generate the final voting results. Election inspectors at each voting machine assist voters to ensure that their ballot is inputted into the voting machine properly and that the vote is counted.
The election inspectors observe the opening and counting of all absentee ballots. The poll workers verify voters based on their names and addresses to ensure that they are eligible to vote. After confirmation of residency, the poll workers supply a ballot and provide instructions on completing the ballot properly.
Absentee ballots are available for anyone that is registered to vote prior to the annual school district election. To receive an absentee ballot, an application must first be completed. An application can be requested from the District Clerk or downloaded on the district website. Absentee ballots may be submitted to the office of the District Clerk located at 10 Tripp Lane by 5 PM on May 17th. Prior to the vote, all absentee ballots are secured in the District Office and not counted until polls are closed after 9:00 p.m. on May 17th.
After the polls are closed by the election chairperson on May 17th at 9:00 p.m., the election inspectors close the voting machines and generate the final vote tally per each voting machine. The election inspectors and election chairperson supervise the opening and counting of the absentee ballots. After the votes from the voting machines and absentee ballots are tallied, the election chairperson reviews and communicates the voting results to the public. Please refer to District Policy 2120.2 for further information.
