Position: Director of Special Services, K-12, Health Services
Job Information: The position of Director of Special Services, K-12, Health Services requires a collaborative leader with special education teaching and administrative experience who is a student-centered decision maker and team player. The Director will oversee all K-12 special education programs in partnership with the special services administrators and building principals. The successful candidate will:
- Ensure adherence to New York State and federal laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other federal and state mandates related to student services.
- Work collaboratively with school and District staff to research and implement effective programs for students with disabilities at District schools.
- Participate in the design, coordination and implementation of collaborative programs that support Least Restrictive Environment; provide direct support and assistance to administrators and teachers.
- Plan and support professional development regarding instructional programs and strategies for students with disabilities.
- Supervise and evaluate special education faculty and support staff, including psychological services and school nurses.
- Identify research-based instructional techniques and strategies that improve the achievement of special education students in both special education and general education classes.
- Integrate research-based instructional curriculum and programs and strategies for students with disabilities that align with the District’s general education program.
- Analyze data and apply the analysis in assisting special education staff and related service providers in implementing age/grade-appropriate programs and services for students with disabilities.
- Assist with training for all District staff on special education laws, regulations and district procedures.
- Collaborate with out of district programs and manage CSE placed cases.
- Consult and collaborate with talented teachers and staff, supportive parents and a dedicated administrative team.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Qualifications:

Key responsibilities include planning and leading daily practices, developing game strategies, and managing in-game decision-making to optimize team performance. The coach will prioritize the physical, technical, and mental growth of athletes, focusing on skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Additionally, the coach will communicate regularly with student-athletes, parents, and school administrators to ensure alignment with program goals and expectations.
The coach is expected to attend all practices, games, and program-related meetings while creating a positive, inclusive team culture. They will be responsible for promoting safety, managing team logistics, and adhering to school and athletic department policies.
